Who knew that barrera-autosales.com, autoaven, com and stars-auto.com are the same scamers?

December 26th, 2009 Filed under: Online Auto Auction by admin

Look at barrera-autosales.com, autoaven,com and stars-auto.com

they have made some changes to the web page but it is still a scam site

Denver News

BBB Flooded With Complaints On 2 Auto Auction Sites
Stars-Automart, Autoaven Sent Cease And Desist Letters
POSTED: 12:41 pm MDT August 11, 2009
DENVER — The Denver office of the Better Business Bureau said its telephone helpline has been jammed with calls from people across the country who are asking about two auto sales Web sites that claim to be headquartered in Denver.
According to the BBB, calls have been nonstop and the BBB has sent a "cease and desist" notice regarding trademark infringement to the company because of a fake BBB report the sites link to that falsely shows the company with an A+ rating.
The two Web sites list one physical address as 10701 W. Sixth Ave, but that address actually belongs to BBB Accredited business, Automotive Avenues, Inc. Another link goes to 3925 Monaco Parkway, which actually belongs to Cintas Document Management — a paper shredding company.

The two Web sites, www.stars-automart.com and www.autoaven.com, claim to offer sales of repossessed vehicles.
The BBB said customers complain that once a majority payment is sent via MoneyGram to a Denver address, the company ceases communication. The company has not responded to the BBB.
An Internet check shows the two domain names are registered to a private registration company in Sunnyvale, Calif.
The BBB said it sent out the warning because on-delivery and Internet auction fraud were the top two complained-about fraud types at the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
"The BBB takes complaints very seriously and does not want any more consumers to be victimized," a news release stated.
TheDenverChannel attempted to contact the Web sites without success. The phone number listed on the site goes to a recording, which suggests callers contact them by e-mail. The same section of the stars-automart.com Web site lists a James Stewart as the owner.
To protect from online scams, the BBB has the following suggestions:
• Verify any organization credentials with the organization directly, (BBB, AutoTrader, Consumer Reports logos, etc.)
• Check the company’s BBB report at www.denver.bbb.org or by calling 303-758-2100. Only do business online with websites you are familiar with and that have a positive track record.
• Make sure the website has a privacy policy. It will contain agreements on how the information you provide on the website will be used and kept private and secure. Print this and keep it in your records.
• The privacy policy may also contain the company’s mailing address. Only do business with companies that provide a sure method of contact, should something go wrong.
• Do not wire transfer any payment. Wired funds cannot be traced and therefore cannot be recovered if you are a victim of fraud.
• If you have become a victim of fraud, contact your BBB and the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov to file a complaint.

Please dont fall for this and report them to law enforcement

hopefully yahoo will prevent all the pro scammers from entering data on this site.
I am only trying to warn people that the scammers come on yahoo and say that they are a good company when they are a scam. If you feel that this is wrong to post this information please send me an email
N

I am one of those idiots who fell for the scam. Then the scammers come on YA and tell what a good deal it is. All I’m trying to do is prevent others form becoming and idiot

you mean Stars-automart.com, autoaven.com and barrera-autosales.com are scams??

I thought something was fishy when I saw the same exact Ford Flex on all three sites with the same stock numbers, pictures and VINs.

Good thing there are vigilent people on YA to try and stop others from losing their shirts.

Thanks for the heads up!

How much should a 1990 Honda Civic with 203,000 miles sell at a drug seized sherrif’s auction?

December 26th, 2009 Filed under: Seized Car Auction by admin

Here in town there will be an auction of cars seized in drug deals and I was just wondering what you guys would pay for the 90 honda civic. Here’s the only description from the site:

1990 Honda Civic VIN# 1HGCB7269LA080237 203,000 miles

I have not seen the car or know what the condition is, but if it’s in "good" about how much would you bid on it? $300?

Can anyone please tell me where I can find public car auctions?

December 26th, 2009 Filed under: Public Car Auction by admin

in california…like los angeles or orange county?
Do I need to become a memeber? Are there any websites ?

http://www.carbuying.us/car-auctions.htm

That should help you out. Some auctions might require you to be a member but there are definitely auctions where you can bid for a car. In some cases you are required to have a license if you are bidding for a customer, but if you are going for yourself than you most likely won’t need a license.
The important thing is to not overpay. While it is cheaper to go to an auction yourself it might be better to hire a proffesional who has the experience and knows how to check the cars condition. For example I just bought a new Acura MDX 2006. I hired a proffesional to go to auctions that had MDX’s coming off leases. He made sure I didn’t get riped off because he had ways of checking if the car was up kept, i.e. tires rotated, oil changed etc. All I had to do was pay a little money up front. But if you really do want to go to the auction yourself check the laws in your state and research some ways of checking the condition of a car. If a car is not auctioned off during the bidding then it will be put into a back lot and there you can buy it at a relatively low price.

What are the laws regarding Auto Brokers/dealers?

December 23rd, 2009 Filed under: Online Auto Auction by admin

i posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a broker/dealer to find a specific car for me. the ad got flagged and taken down. the flagger emailed me and said i was "asking dealers to violate his relationship with Manheim" and that i had "possible curbstone sales activities as an unlicensed dealer". i don’t even know what that means!!!!

here’s the original ad:

"seeking an HONEST licensed auto broker or dealer that has access to all the major auto auctions (i.e., Manheim, etc) and wholesale lease return sales; would like for you to give me online descriptions or some access to self-shop through auction inventories.

i’m happy to pay a fee for this service, but it must be fair. ideally the cost of the car DMV/tax fees your fixed fee will be less than what i can get from a dealer after haggling with them."

what’s wrong with this? someone please enlighten me.

that makes total sense, but only if that were the case.

in my case, i am merely looking for a dealer to find the exact car i want to buy for myself, not to sell back to the public for any profit. i just want to buy a car with the specs that i like, not just merely any car he’s got on his lot with options or colors that don’t suit me. is that wrong?

What you are trying to get a dealer to do is illegal. You are asking them to be your proxy and buy cars at auction on your behalf. Then, you sell them. That makes you a defacto dealer without a license – which circumvents DMV and state laws. That is what is meant by ‘curbing’ or as they said ‘curbstoning’ a car. Its also a way for a dealer to resell a car that is not technically fit for resale to the public. If he sells to you, then you resell it – that becomes a private party transaction, and not subject to his bond or license.

Mannheim prohibits dealers doing this because, as I said, its illegal.

With all of that said, many wholesalers and small dealers do engage in this practice. Its not uncommon. However, its also not something they, or you, should be so brash as to ask or answer in an open forum. You may as well post saying ‘looking for a getaway driver for bank heist’

EDIT: No, what you want is not wrong. However, one can easily see how your ad might be interpreted the same way I did.

anyone have any seize car auction experience?

December 20th, 2009 Filed under: Seized Car Auction by admin

i would like to buy a car from seizecars.com or cheapcarsearch.com and am not sure if anyone has some experience with such purchases.

Lets face facts, the only reason you want to buy at those places is becauce you think you can get a deal for much less, and yes you can, but 100% says your wasting your hard earned bucks.

Without having to go into detail I been in the business 30 years and my advice is STAY AWAY.

Here is a link to my website http://www.usedcartips.org/AUCTIONS.html it will tell you a little about auctions, then you decide if its for you
